Community Outreach

Page history last edited by Jane McManus 1 year, 11 months ago

I believe that the stability of a library depends on the community it serves.  Outreach programs serve non-users and  people with special needs within a community.  This outreach helps provide an opportunity to improve the library's image to people within the community and allows collaboration with other community groups and organizations to enhance overall library services.  (Kathleen Phillips, Seymour Libary)

This'n'That:

  • Develop & implement staff training, provide support & guidance for Outreach
  • Research & study the populations you decide to focus on. Determine needs and what the library can do to meet those needs.
  • Do not assume they will come to you. GO where the targeted populations are.
  • Develop relationships with other library leaders, community leaders, educational organizations, community groups and agencies.
  • Be patient & consistent.
  • An agreement between the library and community partner to accomplish specific short-term goals may grow into a larger or expanded collaboration.
  • What is the ability to attract new users?
