Libraries are more than books. Some kids need a little direction to get the creative juices flowing. I gleaned the following from PUBYAC contributors.   • Billy Boy

  • Buffalo Gals

  • Camptown Races

  • Green Grows the Laurel

  • Old Dan Tucker

  • Polly Wolly Doodle

  • Pop! Goes the Weasel

  • Wait for the Wagon

  • There is a Happy Land

 

PROGRAM:

  • Read a picture book or part of a biography
  • Talk about the times--What was expected of the children? What were some chores on the farm?
  • Have the children go to two to five stations, depending on time.
  • Have plenty of word searches or coloring sheets while children finish up at the various stations.
  • Play games once everyone is reassembled.
  • Refreshments
  • End with a square dance or reel, if you have the room

 

TIME:

  • Usually, one-and-a-half to two hours is sufficient.
