Movement

Movement is the primary form of expression. Children obtain joy and happiness in ways that are spontaneous and imaginative. Chores and routines are much more fun when music is involved.  The cadence sets the pace.

  • Walk Around the World -- Children pretend they are taking a walk around the world. But this is in a very strange world with lots of strange roads. You might direct  them to start walking on tiptoes past a sleeping giant, then come to a road made of trampolines followed by a road made of ice cream, mucky mud, chewing gum, hot sand, marbles, etc. Once they get the idea, encourage children to suggest other road surfaces to walk on.

  • Intersperse locomotor with nonlocomator movements--walk, jump, shake, bend, jog, twist, gallop, stretch, swing, hop.
