Friendship is Like a Rainbow

To Make Rain:

Slide palms back & forth,

Tap fingers together,

Snap fingers,

Clap hands,

Slap thighs,

Stomp feet,

Slap thighs,

Clap hands,

Snap fingers,

Tap fingers together,

Slide your palms back & forth

My umbrella is my friend.

It keeps me nice and dry.

When rain clouds fly by overhead,

And raindrops fill the sky.

                --YOUR BIG BACKYARD,

                April 1990

Rain on the green grass,

And rain on the tree,

Rain on the house top,

But not on me.

When the rain is over,

And the sun begins to glow,

Little flowers start to bud,

And grow, and grow, and grow!

One Spring day, the sun shone bright,

But clouds came along, it was dark as night.

The wind blew hard, the rain came down.

The flowers stretched up from the soft, wet ground.

Then the wind, and rain, and clouds passed by,

And a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky.

Pitter-pat, pitter-pat,

The rain goes on for hours.

And 'though it keeps me in the house,

It's very (make 2 fists) good for (slowly open them) FLOWERS!

Three little raindrops sitting on a cloud.

The 1st one said, "The thunder sure is loud!"

The 2nd one said, "The lightning's very bright!"

The 3rd one said, "A rainbow is in sight!"

Then, SPLASH went the raindrops, down from the sky.

To water all the plants, and help them grow up high.

Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
Oh, I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow,

Sing a rainbow too
Listen with your eyes, listen with your eyes
And sing everything you see
Oh, I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow,
Sing along with me
Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
Oh, I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow,
Sing a rainbow too.

The big, round sun,               (make circle with both hands)

In an April sky,                       (raise arms over head)

Winked at a cloud                 (wink)

That was passing by.

The gray cloud laughed,       (laugh)

As it scattered rain,                (finger raindrops)

Then, out came                       (make circle with both hands)

The big, round sun again.     (raise arms over head)

Two little clouds one summer day

Went floating through the sky

They went so fast they bumped their heads,

And both began to cry.

Old Father Sun looked down and said:

"Oh, never mind, my dears,

"I'll send my little fairy folks

"To dry your falling tears!"

One fairy came in red so fine,

And one in orange-bright,

Then, yellow, green, blue, and violet,

Were all at once in sight.

They wiped the cloud tears all away,

And then, from out the sky,

Upon a line the sunbeams made,

They hung their gowns to dry.

It drizzles, it rains,

It pours, it hails.

It lightnings, it thunders,

All the children run home.

The rain is falling down, SPLASH,             (pretend to jump in puddle)

The rain is falling down, SPLASH,

Pitter-patter, Pitter-patter,

The rain is falling down, SPLASH!

...The thunder starts to roll, CRASH!...       (roll hands, and then stop abruptly)

...The lightning starts to strike, FLASH!...   (finger a lightning strike)

...The sun begins to shine...                       (hold up arms to make the sun)

Gilly's galoshes make splishes and sploshes      (stamp feet)
As Gilly skips home in the rain.                          (skip)
She'll stamp and she'll stamp,                           (stamp feet)
But her feet don’t get damp.                            (shake head)
So she splashes again and again!                     (jump up and down)
When they stick in the mud,                             (struggle)
She falls down with a thud!                              (pretend fall)
Then, gets up and starts over again!                (pop up)
