Trees

(sing to” The Wheels on the Bus”)

The leaves on the trees are orange and red…

All through the town.

The leave on the trees come tumbling down…

All through the town.

Watch them as they whirl and swirl…

All through the town.

The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish…

All through the town.

We’ll rake them in a pile & jump right in…

All through the town.

(sing to: “Oh, When the Saints”)

Oh, when the leaves fall off the trees,

Oh, when the leaves fall off the trees,

You know that it must be autumn.

When the leaves fall off the trees.

5 Little leaves all bight and gay,

Hung on a tree one nice Fall day,

The wind was blowing round and round,

And 1 little leaf came tumbling down.

(4-3-2-1)

Here is an oak tree, straight and tall,      (actions)

And here are its branches wide.

Here is a nest of twigs and moss,

With three little birds inside.

I like to rake the leaves      (make raking motion with hands)
Into a great big hump.       (pretend to pile leaves)
Then I move back a bit,      (take a step or two back)
Bend my knees and jump!  (jump)

This is my tree,

My place to be alone in,

My branches for climbing,

My green leaves for hiding in,

My sunshine for reading,

My clouds for dreaming,

My sky for singing,

My tree, my beautiful tree.

THE 20TH CENTURY CHILDREN'S

POETRY TREASURY

A tree may be a home for a bird,      (flap arms like a bird)
A tree may be a home for bee,         (buzz your hand around)
A tree may be a home for snake,      (slithering snake with hands)
A tree may be a home for monkey,   (swing your arms)
Hmmm. I wonder if a tree would make a good home for me?

Pine trees stretch and stretch so high their branches try to touch the sky.
Willow trees droop and droop so low their branches sweep the ground below.
Oak trees stretch and stretch so wide their branches reach out from side to side.

A tree house, a free house,
A secret you and me house,
A high up in the leafy branches
Cozy as can be house.

A street house, a neat house,
Be sure to wipe your feet house
Is not my kind of house at all -
Let's go live in a tree house.”

     ― Shel Silverstein

WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS

Good timber does not grow with ease;

The stronger the wind, the stronger the trees.

          --J Willard Marriott

You can't see the forest for the trees.

We plant trees not for ourselves, but for future generations.

          --Caecilus Statius, 220-168 BC

I like trees beacuse they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do.

          --Willa Cather

Do not be afraid to go out on a limb--

That's where the fruit is.

          --Anon

In an orchard there should be enough to eat,

Enough to lay up,

Enough to be stolen,

And enough to rot on the ground.

          --James Boswell

The wonder is that we can see these trees and not wonder more.

          --Ralph Waldo Emerson
