KINDNESS BEGINS WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT WE ALL STRUGGLE-----Charles Glassman

 Libraries are more than books. Some kids need a little direction to get the creative juices flowing. I gleaned the following from Programming Librarian FB contributors. If you’re a member, check out the archives. Please add YOUR comments. Your colleagues would appreciate hearing what works, and what didn't!

This could be an on-going program for elementary school children. 

  • Letters/cards/place mats for Seniors, military or community service workers
  • Collection of items for distribution to Food Pantries, Animal Shelters, Homeless Shelters
  • Tied fleece blankets, and dog toys for Animal Shelters
  • Soup mix or cookie mix in jars for Food Pantries
  • Personal Care Kits for the Homeless
  • Busy Bags for children in the hospital  
  • Painting Rocks that have an inspirational message, (see: Sully Library Rocks)
  • Partner with a Community concern, ie Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary
  • Around the holidays, help with the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive

  • Work with the Ronald McDonald House in your area
  • Make bookmarks, paint pictures
  • Give hope
