There's a wide-eyed owl
With a pointed nose,
He has pointed ears,
And claws for toes.
He sits in a tree
And looks at you,
Then flaps his wings and says,
“Who…who….whoo!”
An unassuming owl
Having little else to do
Remarked within the darkness
A discreet and subtle, “Whoooo!”
A self-important owl,
Puffed and pompous in the gloom,
Responded with an overblown,
And condescending, “Whoooooom!”
--Jack Prelutsky
Five little owls in an old elm tree,
Fluffy and puffy as owls could be.
Blinking and winking with big round eyes
At the big round moon that hung in the skies.
As I passed beneath, I could hear one say:
“There’ll be mouse for supper, there will today!”
Then, all of them hooted, “To-whit, tu-whoo!
“Yes, mouse for supper, Hoo-hoo, hoo-hoo!”
--ERIC CARLE’S ANIMALS, ANIMALS
One old owl upon a tree,
High atop a hill,
Watched the forest silently,
While the night was still.
One old owl looked around,
While the moon was bright,
Flapped its wings without a sound
And flew into the night.

THE FROG WORE RED SUSPENDERS
A wise old owl sat in an oak,
The more he saw the less he spoke,
The less he spoke, the more he heard.
Why can’t we all be like that bird?
--Traditional
A little boy went into a barn,
And laid down on some hay.
An owl came out, and flew about-
And the little boy ran away.
5 Gray owls by the old barn door,
1 flew away and then there were 4.
4 Gray owls sat in a tree.
1 flew away and then there were 3.
3 Gray owls called, “who, who, who.”
1 flew away and then there were 2.
2 Gray owls saw a mouse on the run.
1 flew away and then there was 1.
1 Gray owl gave a yawn.
Closed his eyes and napped until dawn.
