Boxes, boxes, everywhere,

Some are long, some are square,

Some I stack, when they are small,

Some so big inside I crawl.

Jack-in-the-box,

You sit so still.                    (Make fist with thumb inside)

Won’t you come out?

Yes, I will!                           (Pop out thumb)

A little box, a bigger box,                         (Hold hands slightly apart, move further)

A great big box I see.                               (Hold arms wide apart)

Now let’s count them. Are you ready?     (Point to audience)

One, two, three.                                       (Arms wide, closer, closest)

I have a little turtle that lives in a box,

He swam a puddle and climbed on the rocks.

He snapped at a mosquito, he snapped at a flea,

He snapped at a minnow and he snapped at me.

He caught the mosquito, he caught the flea,

He caught the minnow, but he didn’t catch me.

Isn’t it pretty, oh, don’t you see,

All of the presents under the tree?

Here is a long one, a short one, and a tall one too,

Here is a round one, and another wrapped in blue.

Isn’t it pretty, oh, don’t you see,

All of the presents under the tree?

Had a little can made out of tin,

I washed it out to use again.

I added paper, added glue,

I made this gift just for you.

It looks empty but you see,

It’s full of love for you from me.

It can hold your pencils, paper too.

I made this gift just for you.

Here is a box,

Open the lid,

I wonder whatever

Inside is hid

...(make an animal sound to correspond with the animal & get the kids to guess what the animal is)

Why, it's a _________

Without a doubt.

So open the lid,

And let him out.

Fiddle-fiddle-fee, what do you see?

What’s in the basket that’s good to eat?

Little boxes on the hillside / Little boxes made of ticky tacky

Little boxes, little boxes, little boxes all the same.

There’s a green one & a pink one / And a blue one & a yellow one.

And they’re all made of of ticky tacky / And they all look just the same

Someone’s at the door. I hear knocks.      (click tongue 3 times, pretend to knock)
I open up the door. I see a box.                (shout hurray)
I open up the box. The box is full of locks. (open the box to show 2 or 3 padlocks)
I really do not want a box of locks.           (say boo hoo, pretend to cry)
Repeat with socks. Repeat with rocks
Someone’s at the door. I hear knocks.      (click tongue 3 times, pretend to knock)
I open up the door. I see a box.                (shout hurray)
I open up the box. The box is full of blocks.
I really, really want a box of blocks.           (clap and cheer)

(Can also be made into flannel board)
