Tigers and Big Cats
I’m a lion, fierce and strong,
My mane is brown and very long.
It sounds loud when I sing.
The other animals call me King.
--SEASONAL STORYTIME CRAFTS
I'm a little lion
On the Plain.
Here is my tail,
And here is my mane.
When I get excited you will see,
Just how loud my roar can be!
Walking through the jungle, what did I see?
I saw a golden lion roaring at me!
Lions here, (Point here)
Lions there, (Point there)
Lots of lions everywhere. (Spread arms)
Some are leaping, (Leap)
Some are sleeping, (Sleep)
Some are prowling, (Slowly crawl)
Some are growling, (Growl loudly)
Lions here, (Point here)
Lions there, (Point there)
Lots of lions everywhere. (Spread arms)
A handful does not satisfy a lion.
--TALMUD
In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight.
In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight.
Near the village, the quiet village, the lion sleeps tonight.
Near the village, the quiet village, the lion sleeps tonight.
Hush, my Darling, don’t fear, my Darling, the lion sleeps tonight.
Hush, my Darling, don’t fear, my Darling, the lion sleeps tonight.
--THE TOKENS
The lion has a golden mane.
And under it a clever brain.
He lies around and idly roars.
And lets the lioness do the chores.
--Jack Prelutsky,
ZOO DOINGS
I’m gonna be a mighty king
So enemies beware!
Well, I’ve never seen a king of beasts
With quite so little hair.
I’m gonna be the main event
Like no king was before.
I’m brushing up on looking down,
I’m working on my roar.
--Walt Disney’s LION KING
Once I saw a lion, (shade eyes)
That’s when he saw me. (point to self)
He gave a mighty roar. (throw head back & roar)
But I was brave as I could be. (chest out)
I calmly bent to tie my shoe (bend & tie)
The day I visited the zoo!
Look there, Daddy, do you see?
There's a cat with a fancy hair-do.
No, that's not what it is at all,
That's an animal people call a LION.
I see,
But it still looks like a cat with a fancy hair-do,
To me.
Look there, Daddy, do you see?
There's a cat with polka dots on.
No, that's not what it is at all,
That's an animal people call a LEOPARD.
I see,
But it still looks like a cat with polka dots on,
To me.
--"Horse in Striped Pajamas" variation
There's a lion walking through the jungle,
There's a lion walking all around.
There's a lion walking through the jungle,
And he makes the scariest sound--ROAR!
--Mr. Jim
Here comes the elephant--CRASH, CRASH, CRASH,
Here comes the cheetah--DASH, DASH, DASH,
Here comes the monkey--SWING, SWING, SWING,
Here comes the lion, he's the king! ROAR!
