                Blankets

Starlight, star bright,

First star I see tonight.

I wish I may,

I wish I might,

Have the wish,

I wish tonight.

            --Traditional

Bright stars, light stars

Shining-in-the-night stars.

Little twinkly, winkly stars,

Deep in the sky.

Yellow stars, red stars,

Shine-when-I’m-in-bed stars,

Oh, how many blinky stars,

Far, far away.

            --Rhoda Bacmeister

Under the dark is a star,

Under the star is a tree,

Under the tree is a blanket,

And under the blanket is me.

          --Marchette Chute

At night I see the twinkling stars,

And a great, big, smiling moon.

My mommy tucks me into bed,

And sings a goodnight tune.

Little bear sleeps in the woods, in the woods.

Little gull sleeps on the sea.

Little colt sleeps in a big, big field.

Little squirrel sleeps in a tree.

Small fox sleep in a den, in a den.

A hive is the place for a bee.

But here am I in my very own bed,

And that's the best place for me.

THE 20TH CENTURY CHILDREN'S

POETRY TREASURY

Stars shining bright above you,

Night breezes seem to whisper I love you.

Birds singing in a sycamore tree,

Dream a little dream of me.

Say nighty-night and kiss me;
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me.
While I'm alone, blue as can be,
Dream a little dream of me.
Stars fading but I linger on, dear---
Still craving your kiss.
I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear,
Just saying this...

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

          --Michael Buble

There were 10 in the bed,

And the little one said:

"Roll over, roll over."

So, they all rolled over,

And one fell out.

And they gave a little scream,

And they gave a little shout.

(Repeat 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2)

There was 1 in the bed,

And the little one said:

"Ah, alone at last!"

Come to the window,

My baby with me,

And look at the stars

That shine on the sea!

There are two little stars

That play hide-and-seek

With two little fish

Far down in the deep.

And two little frogs

Cry "Neap, neap, neap."

I see a dear baby

Who should be asleep.

          --Traditional

This little baby is ready for her nap,      (show one finger)

Place her down on her mother's lap.     (lay finger in palm of opposite hand)

Cover her up, so she won't peep.           (wrap fingers around baby)

Rock her till she's fast asleep.                (rock hand)

Go to sleep, little toes, you’ve worked hard all day.

Go to sleep, little legs, you’ve worked hard at play.

Go to sleep, little hands, you’re always so busy.

Go to sleep, little arms, being small isn’t easy.

Go to sleep, little ears, there’s so much to hear.

Go to sleep, Little one, there’s nothing to fear.

          --County of LA Library—Storytime

Time for bed, time for bed,         (touch wristwatch)

Fluff up your pillow,                     (fluff pillow)

Lay down your head.                    (palms together, hands to side of face)

Pull up the blanket,                      (pretend to bring blanket to chin)

Tuck it in tight,

Close your eyes,                            (close eyes)

And sleep all night.                      (snore)

           --County of LA Library—Storytime

Big yellow moon shines so bright          (Arms above head in circle shape.)
Glides across the starry night.                (Arms move from left to right.)
Looks down at me asleep in bed.          (Hands together at side of face.)
Whispers, "Good night, sleepyhead."    (Forefinger in front of mouth.)
Big yellow moon, your turn is done.      (Arms above head move down in front of body.)

Here comes Mr. Morning Sun.               (Arms move above head in circle shape.)
I wake up.                                               (Arms stretch out.)
You go to bed.                                       (Hands together at side of face.)

"Sleep well, Moon, you sleepyhead."     (Forefinger in front of mouth.)

Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you,
Here’s a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true.
And now ’til we meet again,
Adios, au revior, auf weidersehen.....Good Night!

          --Lawrence Welk Theme Song

Counting sheep, counting sheep,
Helps my mommy go to sleep.               (stretch and yawn)
One sheep, two sheep,
(hold up appropriate number of fingers)
Three sheep, four,
Soon my mommy starts to snore.          (snore)
Repeat with “daddy” and other family members

Ring around the planets,

Pockets full of stars.

Star dust, star dust,

Fall where you are.

One wish to row your bed

Beyond the land of day,

One wish to blow your bed

Around the Bedtime Bay.

And one wish to float your bed

Where little dream birds play.

One wish to sway your bed

Above the sleepy tree.

One wish to sail your bed

Across the starry sea.

And one wish to bring you back

To morning time. And me.
