ANIMAL WHO AM I?
* Divide group into smaller groups of 5-10.
* The children must form their group into types of animals or insects.
* Give each group time to work together.
* Guess
ANIMAL CALL OUT
* Group forms circle.
* "IT" calls out species (amphibian, bird, fish, mammal, reptile), and points to another player, and then starts to count to 10.
* If a player fails to name a creature in that species that was called out, he becomes "IT."
BIRTHDAY LINE-UP (can also do ASTROLOGICAL SIGNS)
* Explain to the group that you want them to line up in chronological order, according to birthdays, WITHOUT talking.
* After players are lined up, discuss how they arrived at their formation.
NOTE: If there are any double birthdays.
BUZZ (older children)
* Players are seated in a circle.
* Count in numerical order until you come to a multiple of 5 or 7.
* That player must say “buzz” instead of the number.
* If player fails, then he/she remains out until the next player fails.
OR
* The game can be played until the last player wins.
COUNTING GROUPS
* Players listen to a number of beats, (use sticks or hands).
* Players must form a group of that particular number.
* If group doesn’t have the correct amount, all players are out.
FINISH THE SONG/SAYING
* Group is divided into 2 teams.
* Team A starts singing/saying________.
* When the game leader raises hand, Team B must complete song/phrase.
* If B fails, Team A starts another round.
* If B is successful, Team B starts the next round.
GROUP JUGGLING
* Divide the group into smaller groups 8 – 10 players.
* Gently toss bean bag/koosh ball from players across circle to another player, until all have participated.
* Repeat pattern, two or three times. Players are to note who passed it to them, and to whom they passed it.
* Add another bean bag/koosh, keeping the first one in play too.
*After a few times, add another.
TABOO
* Group decides topic and related words that are taboo.
* Object of the games is to NOT use the words that the group has decided are taboo.
* In partners/teams, talk on the assigned subject for a given amount of time, (ie: Topic: CAMPING: tent, camping, fun, food…)
* Each time a word is used that is taboo, the player/team is penalized 1 point.
SPELLING GAME
(Materials needed 2 sets of 8 spelling cards & the word list)
* Divide group into two teams, (you do not need to have eight on a team—with lower numbers players take more than one card—higher, they take turns.) Teams use letters to spell out words given to them by the leader. First team to correctly spell word gets point.
* SPELLING CARDS: Put R & T on opposite sides of cards; then continue, O & A; U & B; etc. (It helps to do two separate letterings--a set of blue, and a set of black or red.
