RCSD Summer Reading

The RCSD Summer Reading website contains reading lists for grades 3rd through 11 in English and 3rd -12 in Spanish.

This year students have required reading assignments due in the Fall when they return to school.  All of the book titles and assignments can be found at:

Assuring Patron Privacy and Safety During Summer Programs

There are issues regarding libraries posting photos on Facebook, Flickr, MySpace and Library Web Pages As a safety precaution and to protect the privacy of library records, children's reading records should be located in an area or accessed in a way that does not allow members of the public from knowing the children's last name. Contest forms that include children's addresses and/or phone numbers should be put in a container in which they can't be read by passers-by. If children's faces are used on library web pages or if contest winners names are released to the local newspaper, a parental permission slip is strongly encouraged. Many libraries that routinely take pictures during library events include a parental permission slip to allow the library to photograph their child as part of their registration process. This is not a legal requirement, but extra precaution is encouraged whenever minors are involved.

Why do summer reading:

Your brain is like a muscle. If you play a sport and don't exercise during the summer, what happens when you return to the sport in September? Your brain gets flabby and starts to leak out of your ears, if you're not exercising it during the summer. Read...anything...your brain will remember things much more readily when you come back from your vacation. (PUBYAC 4-28-2014)
