There was a little turtle
He lived in a box.
He swam in a puddle.
He climbed on the rocks.
He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
And he snapped at me.
He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
But he didn’t catch me.
--Vachel Lindsay
Myrtle was a turtle with a polka-dot shell.
She looked a little funny, but she managed very well.
She ate a lotta bugs and a juicy worm or two,
And she even went to live at the Children's Zoo.!
--Ruth Dowell
Move Over, Mother Goose
Turtle goes across the road,
Across the road,
Across the road,
Turtle goes across the road.
It takes him all day long.
On the rock the turtles get
When they are tired of being wet.
Back into the pond they slide
When they are tired of being dried.
--Grace Taber Hallock
A big turtle sat on the end of a log,
Watching a tadpole turn into a frog.
Turtles are slow,
As we all know,
But, to them
It is no worry.
For wherever they roam,
They are always at home.
So they do not
HAVE to hurry.
--Laura Arlon
This is my turtle,
He lives in a shell.
He likes his home very well.
He pokes his head out
When he want to eat,
And pulls it back in
When he wants to sleep.
