NOON Year's Eve

Page history last edited by Jane McManus 7 years, 5 months ago

Libraries are more than books. Some kids need a little direction to get the creative juices flowing. This was suggested at the ALSC webinar, Family Programs on a Shoestring, 7-2011, by Angela Young. Please add YOUR comments. Your colleagues would appreciate hearing what works, and what didn't!

 INVITATIONS:

  • Clock
  • Stars

REFRESHMENT:

  • Sandwiches can be cut out using star-shaped cutters to add to the overall effect of the party food.
  • Serve a variety of finger foods, light refreshments—cheese cubes, pieces of fruit, anything with a tempting, fancy toothpick.
  • Celebrate with an apple juice toast.

DECORATE:

  • Glitter Ball – Christmas ornament on a pole
  • Paper Streamers
  • Stars

FAVORS/CRAFTS:

  • Sparkly art projects
  • Glitter hats/crowns
  • Masks
  • Noisemakers – horns, whistles, paper plate shakers
  • Calendars with coloring options for the months, and coloring key to indicate holidays, birthdays, medical appointments, etc.

GAMES:

  • PIN—Star in Galaxy, Fuku Wari
  • TOSS—confetti OR bubbles (not both)
  • FLOOR—Stomp sheets of bubble wrap  *THIS has always been a big hit!!!

PROGRAM:

  • This really is more of a dance party with music, scarves, have the kids wear colorful, silly socks for the "sock hop.
  • Have count down to NOON (drop or raise ball, whichever works best for you)
  • Have various stations for crafts & games, if offered.
  • If using balloons be mindful of latex allergies. It's been also suggested that you encourage the attendees to keep bouncing the balloons about rather than "grab and snatch."

VOLUNTEERS:

  • Get adult help to “serve”

COST:

  • Most supplies can be purchased in bargain bins at craft stores or Dollar Stores.

TIME:

  • About an hour-and-a-half should be sufficient. (Dependent on the number of families passing through; and how many stations are offered.)
