ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Summer reading:  Tonia will contact the following places to ask for coupons:

  • Applebees
  • Brueggers
  • Friendlys
  • Genesee Country Museum
  • McDonalds
  • Seneca Park Zoo
  • Strassenbugh Planetarium
  • Strong Museum (but they never say yes!)
  • Wendys
    • She will email a request form to librarians and asks that libraries not just leave coupons on the desk for people to take, but that we use them as actual prizes or rewards this summer.
  • The summer program Mini Grant will not be funded this year.
  • RPL Foundation will fund an abbreviated ad for summer reading and Tonia will email us with the necessary format for publication.
  • Online registration is funded for this year. 

Smart Boards:  Cathy Henderson asked the group for ideas on how to use them in programming and story time. 

Internal cards: System Services committee is working on a policy for their use. 

Comics Conference will be great and is being held on April 27th. 

RPL and city branches will be closed on February 20th.

 

CLASSIFICATION AND MARKETING:

Tonia gave a great presentation which included Darien Public Library’s GLADES classification and Arizona’s “Neighborhoods” system.  Gina Wells and Bruce Tehan also discussed their reclassification of their “under 5” books at their city branches.

 OTHER BUSINESS:

Upcoming meetings: 

  • BOCES and MCLS are co-sponsoring a workshop on “Common Core Standards” at Brighton Library on the last Wednesday in March.  It is an all-day workshop, with the YA concentration in the morning and children’s at 1:00.  Send Tonia an email if you would like to attend.
  •  RRLC will not be offering the Peggy Sharp “Best Books” workshop again but MCLS librarians and RRLC will be presenting “Best Books” as Monday night programs 3 times this year.  The first one will be held on March 12th.  Contact Tonia for more information.
