Dice Games

Page history last edited by Jane McManus 10 years, 7 months ago

Libraries are more than books. Some kids need a little direction to get the creative juices flowing. Please add YOUR comments. Your colleagues would appreciate hearing what works, and what didn't! The following was gleaned from BRAIN GAMES FOR YOUR CHILD by Robert Fisher.

Dice Battle:

  • This simple game has each person rolling a die, and seeing who has the highest score.
  • Record the points and whoever reaches 50 points, or 10 throws first, wins.

Beat That!

  • A great game for teaching younger children the concept of place value.
  • The goal is to get the highest score after a certain number of rolls.
  • Each player throws the dice, then arranges and records their top score. (ie: 4-5 would actually be 54 points; 4-1-2 would be 421 points--it will depend on the number of dice played. Start with only 2 for younger children.)
  • After 5 rounds, the player with the highest number wins.

    • You can also work towards getting the smallest total.

    • Older children can play with up to 7 dice.
